@causalinf For sure! There are hierarchies in France as well. But it seems more open I would say. There is especially a real divide between the high profile institutions such as TSE and PSE, and the rest (which accounts for like 90% of the jobs).

@causalinf In the sense that the two subgroups have very different definitions of what "prestige" means. Having an AER for instance would be seen as a positive thing in both groups, but I wouldn't be surprised if it would be valued somewhat *less* in the non-top institutions.

@causalinf Not because it is easy, but having an AER does not signal anything on one's ability to teach on a Saturday morning in front of an empty class in a cold amphitheater, or on one's ability to do administrative duties.
