      @ben_golub I wonder if Uber will be able to turn profitable at any point in the future? My sense is: probably not. But because it generates significant social surplus, society could decide to subsidize it to keep it alive. But in this case, why not use those subsidies for public transit?

    @ben_golub It has been proven than in many circumstances, Uber competes with public transit. It also increases road congestion, which are both decreasing the social value of its service.

      @ben_golub I may be wrong but if Uber is structurally incapable of capturing enough of the value it creates to turn profitable, we are in a market failure. But the solution to this failure already exists: it’s public transit.
