A quick backstory: the Mondial Air Ballons is the largest balloons gathering in the world. It takes place every two years in a former NATO/US air base, and is co-organized by a descendent of the inventor of hot air flying. 400.000 people attend each edition.
-
It also holds the world record of the largest number of inline balloons: 456. Today was a tentative to break it, but it didn’t succeeded ("only" 456 balloons).
-
If you’re in the US and are interested by a similar event, an equivalent in size and amplitude is held each year in Albuquerque, NM.
-
I grew up not far from where it takes place. When I was younger, it was quite common for us to see balloons flying over my parents’ house. My father once managed to get us VIP access, it was cool!
-
Only drawback is that because of weather conditions, takes off are sometime canceled. This is why it took me 10 years to see another massive one!
