      1. For at least some people, displaying public knowledge of R is mostly signaling – as it comes with various symbolic and monetary rewards. But R is a powerful and open source and free langage that helps bring stats to unprivileged groups. Expanding adoption should be the goal. @DinaPomeranz/1146920695059947522

      And Dina is absolutely right to point that knowing R and how to code can be a privilege. I learnt both on my own, without any class and I don’t consider myself an expert at all. I know how hard it could be to overcome this if you didn’t had the privilege.

    And I should also mention how instrumental was (and still is!) the R community to help me learn new things. It’s not just the open source license, it’s also the tons of people who are ready to help and give a bit of their time for (often) pure strangers.

      It’s somehow sad to see a minority in the community destroying (at least partially) this collective effort.
