    1. I just attended #WEHIA2019 on complexity economics. It’s a large field, with a long history. But it’s not "mainstream" because the doors of the mainstream are kept closed.     I’ve been told a lot of stories of papers and methodologies being credited to economists in top institutions, even though they appeared in lesser known subfields, journals or institutions sometimes *decades* ago.

      This is obviously unfair, but on top of being unfair, it is scientifically catastrophic as ideas are not selected based on their merit, which is (in theory) the whole point of science, but based on the affiliation of their authors.

        You might be surprised that I used words as "catastrophic" or "disaster", but I stand by these words: if a field cannot select ideas based on their merit, it can’t be science. It mimics science.
