I’m a bit surprised by the overall tone of this story: many people already tried to create a more empirical intro econ classes 🤔 I’ve seen it in Nancy and Strasbourg in France. See also @coreeconteam, a new (and free by the way!) manual already online for a couple of years. @voxdotcom/1131277305932853252

Why only focus on this particular course? Is it because it’s in Harvard? I bet others in the US already tried to do what Chetty is currently doing. I’m obviously not saying that what happen in Harvard doesn’t matter, but econ is more than what happen in Harvard’s dept!

I’ve already defended the idea that we need to pay more attention to the econ research produced in lesser prestigious places, because having a job there doesn’t necessarily mean you’re less talented. Looks like the same argument applies for teaching.

It’s pretty clear nowadays that economics has a diversity issue (…), but I wonder if how hierarchical the fields is isn’t another dimension of diversity we should be careful about. By dismissing too easily ideas coming from lesser prestigious people, aren’t we hurting our field?
