                    1. I recently realized that people who inspired me the most in the last 2/3 years were women. I’ve learnt to be a better economist *and* human being at their contact. It’s the perfect day for a huge shoutout to @YaminTadjeddine @DinaPomeranz @Undercoverhist and Agnès Gramain 🙏 ⤵️ t.co/Ii0TnTmsdA

With Yamina, I started to love research. Dina taught me to care less about not-so-important things like journals, and more about having a positive impact. Béatrice is a lesson of resilience, kindness and determination. And Agnès’ commitment to inclusion is an everyday lesson.

On top of that, all those four women share a deep sense of curiosity, and an equally deep passion and enthusiasm to understand our society. And all of that without any form of cynicism. There is a lot to be learnt here!

I’ve also learnt a lot from attending the summit for diversity in econ organized by @caleconwomen, and from the fine folks who courageously wrote and disseminate the #AEAletter, including @evelyn_a_smith and @stephkestelman. You learn from your mentors, but also from your peers!

This summit was a truly humbling experience. It literally changed my perception of diversity in economics. I arrived with a will to make econ more diverse, I left with actual tools to make this goal real. We will make the most of this window!

At this summit, I also met @MarthaOlney. We exchanged a few words around a coffee during the 2nd day morning. It was enough for her to give me references that turned out to be critical for a research project I will work on after my graduation.

On top of that, as a semi-out gay man trying to navigate economics as best as I can, I’ve found with Martha a powerful role model. Her courage, calm and determination impressed me beyond words.

It’s still a bit challenging for me right now to navigate being openly gay in econ (this is why I’m just "semi-open"), and I would like to help more for inclusion of LGBT people in econ. My only regret with meeting Martha is that she lives 10 hours away from where I live!

I am deeply grateful that I’ve had the opportunity to meet all of these incredible women, mentors and peers. And of course, the list goes far beyond. I’ve learnt so much at their side, and I’m more than excited to discover what will come next! Happy #WomensDay2019!

One quick final note I forgot in the thread: I can’t wait to meet @DinaPomeranz and @Undercoverhist in person!

(And now, I’m gonna eat some Belgian waffles - something I’ve also discovered thanks to @YaminTadjeddine by the way!)
