    1. Here’s a quick Mastodon crash course: Mastodon isn’t like Twitter, it’s decentralized Thinks as Mastodon as email: you need to choose a server and then create a profile Mine is @simardcasanova@mastodon.social It means I’m @simardcasanova on the server mastodon.social

Do NOT create multiple accounts on multiple instances It’s the same as creating an email address on Gmail, and on Outlook.com, and on Yahoo, and iCloud, and so on You can communicate with people in your server but also with people *outside* your server

Mastodon relies on a protocol that allows servers to communicate with each others It means you can follow people located in a different server — the same way you can send an email to somebody who uses a different provider

To create a Mastodon account: choose a server and create an account here If you want to move to a different server, know that *YOU CAN* So choosing a server isn’t really that important, or at least it’s a decision that is completely reversible

Also, something I forgot to add: Once you follow somebody on a different server, it’s basically transparent compared to somebody you follow on the same server You can do with them the *exact same things* you would do with a Twitter follower (boost/RT, favorite, comment, etc.)

Moved my account to a new instance: it’s now @osc@econtwitter.net!
