      I started my PhD in a non-top department A ton of people around me told me horror stories about the reviewing process, including gross violation of academic ethics due to status 2/4

        But researchers from higher ranked departments, including on EconTwitter, were adamant to try to convince me it was just noise in the process Based on my experience it was a bold hypothesis to call something apparently so prevalent "just noise in the process" 3/4

          And apparently, it’s indeed much, much more than just noise in the process In retrospect, those higher status researchers trying to convince me that lower status researchers do have the same shot at getting published feels increasingly self-serving… 4/4
