                  1. So if I understand this correctly, @SubstackInc pretends to be fine with writers keeping control of everything but once said writers decide to exercise their control, Substack is fine… retaliating Against somebody else This is just disgusting @samthielman/1559291178746580993 1/10

The emails they sent to the person they fired are pretty clear on the reason why they fired him He was fired because he *edited a post* mildly critical of Substack. He didn't write it. He *edited* it. 2/10 @samthielman/1559295377412706304

Good news for Sam: Substack backtracked But I wouldn't trust for a second a company where this kind of shitty thing can happen in the first place Plus I'm wondering how much of this backtracking is due to sincere contrition and how much is due to PR damage control 3/10 @hamishmckenzie/1559581816264134656

(Substack is a platform/on a two-sided market: they connect producers (writers) and consumers (readers). For Substack to succeed they need to attract both. Readers don't care if writers are treated poorly, but writers do care if writers are treated poorly. 4/10

Hence why it's important for Substack to project that they are ready to right a (completely avoidable and frankly worrisome) wrong. Which leaves me wondering how many other shitty things they've done — and will keep doing.) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Two-sided_market 5/10

"I'm all for freedom of speech — unless people criticize me" - Elon Musk "We're all for freedom of speech and writers keeping control of everything — unless they criticize us and decide to actually exercice this control" - Substack 6/10

I'm not really exaggerating when I compare Substack to Musk This is how one of their former top managers said when Musk said he wanted to buy Twitter 7/10 @lulumeservey/1511376638487019524

When I complained on here against @Revue/@TwitterWrite a few weeks ago, somebody from Substack slid into my DMs to suggest I could move to Substack The likelihood of me moving to Substack was, and still is, literally zero 8/10

(I would literally prefer to stay on Revue despite, well, everything shitty about the product (and it's a *long* list) instead of moving to Substack. That being said, I since moved to Ghost.) 9/10

I have no interest to give 10% of my revenues to a hypocrite company who retweets transphobes, financially benefits from antivaxers and conspiracy theorists and is fine retaliating against people who worked for other people who mildly criticized them 10/10 @simardcasanova/1556375303169122305
