      1. So if I’m hearing the degrowth crowd correctly, they say a large enough decoupling between GDP and GHG emissions is unlikely so to properly mitigate climate change, they offer a politically unfeasible scenario that is even less likely to occur Makes total sense 1/5

On the political unfeasibility of degrowth: How many elected officials have won on a degrowth platform worldwide? How many are likely to win in the upcoming years? Will authoritarian regimes purposely reduce the standard of living of their population? 2/5

And bear in mind that for degrowth to be a solution, all of that needs to happen like right now Not in 10 years, not in 20 years *Right now* What's the point of electing a pro-degrowth president or prime minister in 2045? 3/5

To be honest, this argument of their is consistent with what I've read in the literature Degrowth is: - poorly defined - poorly evaluated empirically And we have no idea how to effectively implement it 4/5 @simardcasanova/1507343225408872448

(And now, based on my previous attempts at tweeting about degrowth: let the shitstorm begins. Also, if you're tempted to follow me because of this thread: please don't. I'm an economist writing nerdy things for other economists, I'm not a policy-oriented guy.) 5/5
