    That was quick, thanks you all for your answers! So basically it’s a sort of equivalent of the difference between a Master and a Doctorat in France, the difference being that a Master is not always meant to prepare for a PhD

      Under this system, 100% of all PhD “students” in France would actually be PhD *candidates*
