          1. ICUs in France are packed with COVID-19 patients, incidence rates are stagnating at high levels, but some libs are like "why the government doesn’t reopen museums & theaters, it’s unfair" We know the origins of less than 10% of contaminations, why would you take such a risk?

Imagine we reopen those establishments and it turns out they increase contaminations. Where would you put the new patients? People will literally die if we do this. But there is this insane fetish of "culture" in France, which is actually deeply classist – incl. by liberals

Books and theaters and classical music concerts are mostly consumed by the same minority of educated people. It’s also often funded by public money, and it can be A LOT of money. That produces goods consumed by an already "privileged" minority.

At the beginning of the lockdown, one former (socialist!!) presidential candidate even said that books were culture and Netflix and movies and TV shows were making people dumb (or something like that) Textbook example of classicism, by a PROGRESSIVE person 🤯

It’s sure unfair for this sector that it can’t reopen as soon as anticipated, especially considering that shops reopened ten days ago. But the fact some liberals are ok to let people die just go have their museums and theaters reopen is truly beyond me.

Some defended a reopening by saying "with a strict protocol it’s safe". But when you don’t know the origins of more than 90% of contaminations, you have no idea if a protocol is actually safe or not. They’re also the first to say "take care of hospital workers" 🤷🏻‍♂️

Those calls are also fueled by a deep disgust toward Macron. And so if something is decided by his government, it’s automatically a bad thing. And f*** facts. Polarization is a real thing in the US, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s also bad in France

The US is tiring, but France is honestly a close second here. And don’t get me started on the homophobia and the internalized homophobia among gay men, the sexism, the structural racism, police violence and the rule of law.

One last thing: the French government is pouring a TON of money on sectors that are closed. I don’t know if it’ll be enough, but it’s by no mean the same as in the US where the federal government is doing literally nothing.

I also don’t understand the "it’s unfair" thing: bitch, this is a pandemic, it’s unfair to everybody. Not just you, people who’re working in theaters and concert halls. Gives me very "me, myself and I" vibes.

(But considering how people see "culture" in France, I wouldn’t be surprised if some of them do believe that they’re more important to society than shop owners for instance…)
