            1. Please don’t In Europe I have: - heard homophobic, misogynistic and racist remarks - witnessed (and went through) major abuses of power - witnessed presentations going south Things may be less awful in Europe, but "less awful than" ≠ "not broken" We have a problem here too @schnellenbachj/1288917515322654721

*At least* in the US, there is an open (even if difficult and imperfect) conversation about this In Europe? Nothing of this sort. But the data about this side of the Atlantic is only marginally better: voxeu.org/article/women-european-economics

I guess it would also help if instead of white cis (probably straight) male saying "it’s not broken here", we were listening a bit more women, non-white, and non-straight folks doing econ in Europe I did do a lot of listening myself, and it was nothing but soul crushing

As a gay man I’m fully equipped to witness homophobic shit, but for what I’ve heard from women and non-white folks, they weren’t exactly telling me a story of "oh, you saw homophobia but I never ever saw anything misogynistic/racist myself" It was *the exact contrary*

I’m not kidding you: litteraly 100% of the cis straight male I opened up to about homophobia in econ academia dismissed my experience in some way 100% of them
