      1. .@itsafronomics made a powerful statement on the silence of economists on racial issues I may be just a grad student outside the US but it resonated with me & I wanted to help It's not much but I started to build a data dashboard about diversity in econ simardcasanova.net/wiki/economics/diversity/dashboard/

The goal is to gather data on diversity & to present them in a “web native” way to help w their dissemination I know many of you have papers & presentations on diversity but these documents are often in PDF/PowerPoint & are not always easy to browse, especially on mobile devices

This dashboard is not a research project, it's purely a communication device to help these results spread I also want to editorialize those data, aka only publish the ones that seems relevant or clear enough to me

Deep down, I guess my goal is to help communicate efficiently that there is a case to be made to improve diversity in economics @caleconwomen, attending your summit in 2018, for me it was a transformative moment

I wanted to do this dashboard for a couple of months It all started when I helped @paulgp turn the AEA Climate Survey PDF into CSV files, to make these results easier to spread This dashboard is (to the best of my knowledge) the first time those files are used

At the moment, I only published a couple of (extremely eloquent) graphs on race I plan to do more, both on other topics like gender, sexual orientation and disabilities, and on race itself

If you have papers, presentations, reports, and so on with data on diversity in economics, feel free to send them to me *by email* at olivier@simardcasanova.net I will definitely consider include them in the dashboard in future updates!

Finally, if you haven’t already, consider donating to the @SadieCollective to improve the representation of Black women in economics We need more than just words, we need real action and real change

To my Black economists friends, I love you, I know many other economists also love you, and we are *many* who want more Black people in our field I’m sorry if we aren't always the allies we aspire to be, but at least for me, I am trying to learn and do better Take care

If I had to sum up this first update with one image, it would be this graph We NEED to do better. A lot better.
oh my god twitter doesn’t include alt text from images in their API
