This lake is actually a dam reservoir, built in the 80s by EDF
But it doesn’t produce electricity itself, it serves to regulate the flow of the Moselle river to keep the Cattenom nuclear power plant safe 100km away
The lake is 80m deep and a dozen of houses had to be submerged
Seen from the sky, the lake looks a bit like a maple leaf
And also because the vegetation around it looks like the one found around Canada’s Great Lakes, it’s sometimes called the « little Canada »
