  1. My first ASSA meeting in a nutshell 1/ The good - so happy to have met so many of you in person! - learnt a lot of valuable things about the job market (it’s *very* different in 🇫🇷) - the LGBTQ events 🏳️‍🌈 - a lot of great papers

      - so happy to reconnect with folks I already knew, in some case even as a total (but very good!) surprise to find them here - a LOT of discussions on diversity 2/ The bad - so frustrated I couldn’t meet more of you (especially but not exclusively @drlisadcook & @jenniferdoleac)

        - no presentations on my core field (agent-based modeling), either because I couldn’t find them or because no papers with this methodology were presented - I am very surprised by how bad many presentations were: overcrowded slides, lasted too long… Including by senior folks 😮

3/ The ugly - I spent way too much money on my Lyft rides (goddammit public transit…) - next year it’ll be in Chicago 🥶 - who the hell designed the Marriott?!

Overall this #ASSA2020 meeting was a transformative experience, and I really want to thank YOU the great folks from #EconTwitter You keep showing me that my experience with academia wasn’t necessarily representative of econ in general (This one is for @Claudia_Sahm!)

I also learnt a lot about race I know it’s a sensitive subject, but I also know the question is addressed very differently in 🇪🇺 than in 🇺🇸 I want to learn, I want to listen, & I think this meeting showed me a path to be a good/better ally I’ll keep working on that direction

Now I’m going to rest, I’m going to visit San Diego (I want to see the snow leopards in the zoo ❤️), and I’ll enjoy my train ride back to LA (I won’t forget to tag @ShellyJLundberg if I post pictures of it!)

I can’t wait to see you all next year, and to also see those of you who didn’t/couldn’t come this year (yes you @elben and @cantstopkevin!) And for all of you who got interviews, good luck!

And of course I forgot something: I’ll definitely reconsider my DM policy after your remarks this morning @causalinf I have already been contacted a couple of time by younger LGBTQ grad students seeking advices, I guess opening my DMs would help even more
