@benconomics Thanks for sharing your experience. It is an insightful thread. That being said, I disagree with the conclusion: I don’t think it’s a meritocracy, nor that the best ideas necessarily rise up. It has some aspects of a meritocracy of course, but things are heavily skewed…Permalink

@benconomics I’m also working on a field that is not considered as mainstream but that (I believe) could bring new insights into economics. But talking with older researchers on that field is like hearing a wide-range of stories of their ideas being barred…Permalink

@benconomics … not because they were bad but because they could put some powerful people in "danger". I’m not saying none of the ideas that surface in top 5 journals are "bad" of course, but I think we are far from the first best.
