  1. Hardly disagree (In France, PhD students in economics are expected to publish *at least one paper* and *WITHOUT their supervisor*. It creates a strong incentives to publish good papers in "less good" journals. But if you want to stay in academia there, you have no choice.) @snackowska/1178828282525036546

      The collective effect of publishing good papers in journals where their likelihood to have any significant impact on the literature is much lower is (to me) hugely detrimental for French academia. And it’s sad, because I’ve seen a lot of talented and very impressive people here.
