@dlmillimet @lindseybuck95 I second that. When I started my PhD, I worked on an interesting topic but with tools I didn’t enjoyed to use. A couple of months later, I wasn’t able to continue.

@dlmillimet @lindseybuck95 I had to change my subject in favor of something more enjoyable to me, and because the new subject was quite far off for my supervisor, I also had to find a new one. That was a lot of stress and it worths it, but working on something enjoyable is probably the most important thing

@dlmillimet @lindseybuck95 And if it’s a niche topic, it’s not necessarily a bad move job market speaking: a niche topic has fewer positions, but also fewer candidates. What matters is the ratio between the two, not the absolute number of positions.
