      I don’t have data myself to claim that "talent" is homogeneous. I do have anecdotal evidences though, and they suggest that you can find loads of talented people in all sort of institutions – "top" as "non-top", as an academic career is quite of a stochastic process. 2/3

        Last but no least, "talent" (and its super noisy proxy, resume) is also endogenous: education, who you interact with in your department, the opportunities given to you, etc. have a huge impact (ceteris paribus). 3/3
