I don’t want to be the one that kill the mood, but… If you’re employed at an understaffed university with little money for scientific projects, I’m afraid you will spend more time doing administrative tasks, teaching and seeking budgets than actual research… @sfiscience/1134145164149186561

I’m not saying that all scientists work in such "bad" conditions. But at the very least, I’m afraid that this sort of job dedicated to science is only accessible to a small subset of all university professors.

(And I don’t even bring publish or perish on the table, that incites researchers not to publish meaningful research that interests them, but research that will advance their career. I think it’s bad for science & it’s one of the reason why I decided to leave academia.

I would have had a really hard time to be *this close* to make a living of thinking about stuff that interests me, and the actual job distorted by publish or perish. Paradoxically, I believe I will have more freedom… outside academia… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
