        @Christine_Cai27 My initial thread was mostly about a composition fallacy quite prevalent in econ: it's not because a lot of people in top institutions are "talented" that all talented people are in top institutions. I have experienced this fallacy myself, as someone at a non-top institution.

      @Christine_Cai27 The main issue is that what we use to measure "talent" is actually a *really* noisy measure: it's easier to publish if you have tons of RAs and TAs, a lot of administrative staff, if you know personally the editor of this journal, and so on.
