@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 I agree. Once again, I’m probably biased by what I’ve witnessed in France, where the job market is also really hard (and each year even worse, because the fundings are diminishing, but that’s another story). But things are actually much more open than they seem.

@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 Some universities *refuse* to hire people from top institutions, because (their words) they are too often assholes who think they have privileges.

@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 When you have to teach micro to 400 students in a room with no heat because the university cut it for the weekend to save some money because of its deficit, you need people who are ready to go to the front.

@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 I’ve also read a paper once that showed that academic job prospects for non top PhD students in top institutions are actually not that good.

@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 I’m not saying what you said is wrong. Quite the contrary actually, I think you’re absolutely right to point out that other people’s beliefs are a constraint and should be taken into account.

@causalinf @johnwhitehead81 I just wonder what these beliefs are actually are. 500 hundred people liked my tweet, the vast majority of whom are economists. I guess it says something, I just don’t know what exactly.
